Carpets are one of the traditional handcraft heritages in Turkey. Turkish carpets and kilims are famous and early samples were discovered in between the findings of BC 3 and 5 centuries. The high decorative structure, smooth harmony, refinement of drawing, exquisite coloring of the carpets effect people feelings and they have been used all the time. The motifs of carpets are mostly not only decorative symbols, they have meaning. Traditional Turkish carpet is like a message board expressing the feelings, historical records, loves, fears, religion rules and histories. They mainly consist of symbols of natural habitats in character forms. Mostly they have even sign of Turkish people who produce them as a symbol.

Carpets have existed for centuries, the earliest known Persian carpet found was the Pazirik rug, which was discovered in 1949 during evacuations of burial sites in the Altai mountains in Siberia. The Pazirik carpet has a woolen pile with about 200 knots per square inch. Its central field is a deep red color and it has two wide borders, one depicting deer and the other Persian horseman. It dates from the fifth century BC and is now kept in the Hermitage Museum of Leningrad.
